Expressively Painting from Your Photographs, Intermediate
“Photography came out of painting, and now it is returning to it“ said British artist David Hockney, referring to the birth of photography from the fixing of optical device projected images used by painters. In this class photography “returns to painting”.
This class will empower you to create beautiful, colorful, painterly expressive works of art that reflect your unique interpretation and that brings out the fine artist in you. You will learn a practical step-by-step expressive workflow for using the amazing paint program Corel Painter 2020 with a Wacom tablet, followed by the addition of physical paint to your print (“post-print painting”), to create bold and colorful painterly artistic artworks from your photographs that express your unique point of view and style. Learn how to see from a painter’s perspective and how to create painterly artworks based on your photographs that are clearly, proudly and unambiguously paintings and that leave some interpretation to the viewer. Your painterly artworks will extend the dynamic range of contrasts (value, temperature, and color) far beyond that contained in your source photograph. This class will empower you to loosen up your brush strokes and enrich and embolden your use of color! Whilst this class will provide both technical and artistic training, it is not a software class where you’ll learn formulae and recipes. Instead, think of this as a mini art school! Come prepared to take the risk, to go beyond your comfort zone, and to stretch yourself creatively as Jeremy shares techniques, tools, and insights from more than twenty-five years of experience as a professional artist using the Painter program. His teaching style is lively, encouraging, enthusiastic and full of positive energy! The influence of this class will resonate in all you do creatively. Requirements: Mac or PC with the latest version of Corel Painter 2020 installed, Wacom graphics tablet with the latest Wacom driver installed, a camera, and a willingness to experiment, improvise and take risks.
Oh My Gosh! This was my first time coming to ECS. What an amazing experience--a great investment in my photography education...not only did I learn new techniques but I made some wonderful new friends.
Dear East Coast School,
I wanted to take a moment to send you a note regarding my experience last week. I was one of eleven PPA students that took Al Audleman's test prep class. I found Al to be fine teacher, who was committed to covering all the material on the test, fielding every question thrown at him, and making sure that his students understood the material covered. I was equally impressed by the other students in the class. They were tack sharp and knowledgeable and their questions and responses contributed to my knowledge of the subject at hand. Also, they were a wonderful group of people, with great humor and warmth.
best regards, Dave Robinson
A Wonderful Experience...
I've been coming to ECS for the last twelve years. I can't imagine my summer without the great education and getting to see friends and acquaintances from different parts of the country.
